NEW DELHI: Even as the BJP maintained a broader edge across the state, Raidighi was retained by the Trinamool Congress, with Tapas Mondal (son of Shibprasad Mondal) securing 1,18,991 votes. He defeated BJP candidate Palash Rana by a margin of 5,957 votes in a closely fought contest that stayed competitive through counting. Rana polled 1,13,034 votes but finished just behind in second place.
Raidighi is an assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district. It is one of the seven assembly segments that fall under the Mathurapur (SC) Lok Sabha constituency.
At present, Aloke Jaldata of the
All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA from Raidighi. He won the seat in the 2021 assembly election by securing 48.47 % of the total votes polled. He was followed by the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Santanu Bapuli, who received 33.58% of the votes.
Tapas Mondal was the Trinamool candidate in the recent assembly polls. He was challenged by BJP's Palash Rana.
Earlier, the constituency was represented by Debasree Roy of AITC, who won the seat in both the 2016 and 2011 assembly elections.
The election history shows that Raidighi has remained under AITC’s control for multiple consecutive elections, reflecting continued voter support for the party in the constituency.
