PM Modi South Africa Visit Live: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday set off on a three-day visit to South Africa to participate in the first-ever G20 Summit hosted on African soil.
During his stay in Johannesburg, he will also take part in the sixth IBSA Summit, being held on the sidelines of the G20 meetings.
“I will present India’s perspective at the Summit in line with our vision of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’,” Modi said in his departure statement.

"There's no doubt, the road ahead is tough," agreed British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, adding: "We need to find ways to play a constructive role again today in the face of the world challenges."
Chinese Premier Li Qiang said "unilateralism and protectionism are rampant" and "many people are pondering what exactly is happening to global solidarity".
The summit's host, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, downplayed Trump's absence and argued the G20 remained key for international cooperation.
"The G20 underscores the value of the relevance of multilateralism. It recognises that the challenges that we face can only be resolved through cooperation, collaboration and partnership," Ramaphosa said.
The G20 comprises 19 countries plus the European Union and the African Union, and accounts for 85 percent of the world's GDP and two-thirds of its population.

Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress on Friday claimed that he is attending the G20 Summit in South Africa "safely and securely" since US President Donald Trump is boycotting the conclave and wondered whether "huglomacy" with "my good friend" revive as the next Summit of the grouping will take place in America.
Prime Minister Modi on Friday embarked on a three-day visit to South Africa to attend the G20 Summit in Johannesburg.
Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said the next G20 Summit a year from now will be in the US and by then, presumably, India's trade "(or)deal" with the US will be done.
"But if in the past seven months, President Trump has claimed 61 times that he halted Operation Sindoor, imagine how many more times he will repeat those claims in the next twelve months," Ramesh said on X.
The prime minister is attending the G20 Summit in South Africa today and tomorrow, and he is doing so safely and securely since President Trump and the US are boycotting the summit, the Congress leader claimed.
"Recall that Mr. Modi didn't go to Kuala Lumpur a few days back for the India-ASEAN Summit since he would then have to come face-to-face with President Trump," he said.
It is extraordinary that the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that the US opposes South Africa's G20 themes of solidarity, equality, and sustainability on the grounds that they amount to anti-Americanism, Ramesh said.

The prime minister is attending the G20 Summit in South Africa today and tomorrow, and he is doing so safely and securely since President Trump and the US are boycotting the summit, the Congress leader claimed.
"Recall that Mr. Modi didn't go to Kuala Lumpur a few days back for the India-ASEAN Summit since he would then have to come face-to-face with President Trump," he said.
It is extraordinary that the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that the US opposes South Africa's G20 themes of solidarity, equality, and sustainability on the grounds that they amount to anti-Americanism, Ramesh said.

PM Modi South Africa Visit Live: Secretary (ER) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Sudhakar Dalela, said the South African G20 Summit reflects priorities championed during India’s G20 Presidency. Addressing a Special MEA Briefing on the Prime Minister’s visit to South Africa, he noted that food security and disaster risk management are central to this year’s agenda.
“The Johannesburg G20 Summit marks the culmination of the first cycle of 20 G20 presidencies. The priorities identified by South Africa are aligned with those of India and Brazil, ensuring continuity on issues that matter to the Global South,” Dalela said.
He stressed that the focus on Global South concerns has continued seamlessly across the presidencies of countries from the region. India, he recalled, had established a Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group, underscoring the importance it attaches to the subject. “The South African presidency has carried forward work on disaster risk reduction and resilience as key priorities. Similarly, through the task force on food security, the dialogue on this critical challenge has been advanced,” he added.
Dalela said several priorities from the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration — including digital public infrastructure, women-led development, and the action plan to accelerate SDG progress — were also taken forward in Johannesburg.
“The New Delhi Declaration provided a strong basis for many G20 outcome documents this year. India’s flagship priorities — from digital public infrastructure to women’s empowerment, as well as outcomes from India-initiated working groups — have found strong resonance in the South African presidency,” he said.
He further noted that the Deccan High-Level Principles on Food Security and Nutrition were reinforced in this year’s discussions. “Commitments to triple renewable energy capacity and double energy efficiency are among other key outcomes strengthened under the South African presidency,” he said.
Dalela added that the Johannesburg Summit will also see the conclusion of four emerging-economy tracks.
