Manoj Moothedan of INC secures Perumbavoor, a Kerala Assembly constituency with 28434 votes, beating KC(M) candidate Basil Paul..
Perumbavoor Assembly constituency is located in Ernakulam district of Kerala and is numbered 74 among the 140 constituencies in the Kerala Legislative Assembly.
It has been in existence since 1957, following the formation of the state.
The constituency falls under the Chalakudy Lok Sabha constituency for parliamentary elections. Perumbavoor has witnessed competition between the two major political fronts in Kerala — the United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Left Democratic Front (LDF).
In recent years, the seat has leaned towards INC, a key UDF constituent. In the 2021 Kerala Assembly election, Eldhose Kunnappilly (INC) was elected as the MLA. He secured 53,484 votes, defeating Babu Joseph (Kerala Congress-M, LDF) who polled 50,585 votes, winning by a margin of 2,899 votes, according to Election Commission of India data. Key issues in Perumbavoor include flood management and waterlogging, given its proximity to the Periyar river, along with road congestion, infrastructure development, waste management and employment generation.
The constituency also has a significant migrant labour population, making labour welfare and public services important electoral concerns.
