NEW DELHI: In Patharpratima, despite the BJP’s overall advantage in the state, Trinamool Congress, with Samir Kumar Jana secured 1,17,164 votes. He defeated BJP candidate Asit Kumar Haldar by a margin of 4,873 votes in a closely fought contest. Haldar polled 1,12,291 votes and remained in contention for much of the counting, but ultimately finished second.
Patharpratima is one of the 294 assembly constituencies in West Bengal. It is a General category seat and is located in the South 24 Parganas district. The constituency is part of the Mathurapur (SC) Parliamentary constituency, which includes seven assembly segments.
In the 2021 assembly election, Samir Kumar Jana from the
All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) won the seat. He had also won the constituency in the 2011 and 2016 assembly elections as an AITC candidate.
In the recently held polls, Trinamool retained Jana as its candidate. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fielded Asit Kumar Haldar.
In the 2021 assembly election, AITC secured 51.85% of the vote share, while the BJP, which had fielded Haldar, received 42.31% of the votes.
