J. Kamatchi of TVK secured a decisive victory, polling 1,33,611 votes and defeating DMDK candidate D. Murugesan by a margin of 54,693 votes. AIADMK’s V. Venkatesan finished third with 48,921 votes, as the constituency delivered a clear mandate in favour of TVK.
The Pallavaram constituency witnessed the DMK-led alliance allotting this seat to the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), with Anagai Murugesan contesting as the primary candidate. He faced Dr V. Venkatesan of the AIADMK, who campaigned on urban infrastructure and the ecological restoration of the Pallavaram and Putheri lakes. The race was further diversified by R Karthikeyan representing the NTK and J. Kamatchi representing the TVK, both of whom emerged as significant challengers in this dense urban pocket.
The 2021 election saw Karunanithi (DMK) secure a decisive victory with 126,427 votes (47.50% vote share), defeating Rajendran (AIADMK), who polled 88,644 votes. The victory margin was 37,783 votes. In the 2016 election, the seat was won by Karunanithi (DMK), who polled 1,12,891 votes, defeating the AIADMK’s C. R. Saraswathi by 22,165 votes.
The voter turnout this year was 83.63%, a major jump from 61.03% in the 2021 elections.
Pallavaram (Constituency No. 30), located in the Chengalpattu district on the southern fringe of Chennai, is a historic segment known for its archaeological importance. Landmarks like the Pallavaram Cave Temple, the bustling, over 200-year-old historic Friday Market (Santha), and its proximity to the Chennai International Airport define its identity. A socially diverse electorate, including a large population of defence personnel and a rapidly growing middle class in residential hubs like Chromepet, makes it a high-stakes urban battleground.
The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections were held in a single phase on April 23, recording a high voter turnout of 85.15%, with results declared on May 4. The polls witnessed an intense three-way contest that challenged the state’s traditional bipolar political structure. The electoral battle was primarily between the DMK-led alliance, including the INC and other parties, headed by MK Stalin and the AIADMK-led alliance, headed by Edappadi K Palaniswami, along with the BJP and other parties. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), marking actor Vijay’s political debut as a third force across all 234 constituencies.
