NEW DELHI: Even as the BJP maintained a broader lead across the state, in Nalhati constituency was retained by the Trinamool Congress, with Rajendra Prasad Singh (Raju Singh) securing 87,744 votes. He defeated BJP candidate Anil Kumar Singh by a margin of 13,446 votes, maintaining a steady advantage through the counting process. Anil Kumar Singh polled 74,298 votes but finished second in the contest.
Nalhati is an assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. It is one of the seven assembly segments that fall under the Birbhum Lok Sabha constituency. The seat is part of the state’s 294 assembly constituencies and has seen electoral contests among major political parties.
Rajendra Prasad Singh of the
All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA from Nalhati. He won the seat in the 2021 assembly election by securing 56.55% of the total votes polled. He was followed by the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Tapas Kumar Yadav, who received 29.15% of the votes.
In the recently held assembly polls, Trinamool entrusted Singh to retain the seat. He was challenged by BJP's Anil Singh.
Earlier, the constituency was also represented by AITC in the 2016 assembly election, when Moinuddin Shams secured victory. In 2011, the seat was won by Abhijit Mukherjee of the Indian National Congress (INC).
