NEW DELHI: The Murarai constituency was won by the Trinamool Congress, with Dr Mosarraf Hossain securing 96,902 votes. He defeated Congress candidate Sanjibur Rahaman (Bappa) by a substantial margin of 37,705 votes, maintaining a comfortable lead throughout the counting process. Rahaman polled 59,197 votes but finished well behind in second place.
Murarai is an assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. It is one of the seven assembly segments that fall under the Birbhum Lok Sabha constituency. The seat is part of the state’s 294 assembly constituencies and has seen electoral participation from major political parties.
At present, Dr Mosarraf Hossain of the
All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA from Murarai. He won the seat in the 2021 assembly election by securing 67.23% of the total votes polled. He was followed by the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Debashish Roy, who received 22.14% of the votes.
Earlier, the constituency was also represented by AITC candidates in previous elections. Abdur Rahaman (Liton) won the seat in 2016, while Nure Alam Chowdhury secured victory in 2011.
The election history shows that Murarai has remained under AITC’s control for multiple consecutive elections, reflecting strong and consistent voter support for the party in the constituency.
