Mudaliarpet election result 2026: BJP’s A Johnkumar defeats DMK’s L Sambath by 2,371 votes

BJP’s A Johnkumar won from Mudaliarpet constituency in Puducherry, defeating DMK’s L Sambath by a margin of 2,371 votes.

Mudaliarpet is a prominent urban coastal constituency in Puducherry, known for its blend of residential areas, fishing communities, and active commercial zones. On April 9, the seat witnessed a competitive three-way contest. L Sambath (DMK) represented the SPA alliance (DMK), aiming to retain the constituency, while A Johnkumar (BJP) contested on behalf of the NDA. N Manibalan entered the fray representing the TVK, adding a new dimension to an already dynamic political contest. With evolving alliance equations, the constituency has drawn significant attention.

Historically, Mudaliarpet has seen a close contest between the DMK and AIADMK. A Baskar of the AIADMK secured victories in both 2011 and 2016, establishing a stronghold for the party. However, the 2021 election marked a shift when DMK’s Sambath won the seat with a margin of 4,179 votes. That year, voter participation was strong, with nearly 29,000 out of 34,700 registered voters casting their ballots.

In the 2026 Puducherry assembly elections, voter turnout in Mudaliarpet remained high, reaching 88.17% by 7 pm. The polling percentage steadily rose throughout the day — from 16.22% at 9 am to 35.55% by 11 am, 54.53% at 1 pm, 70.43% by 3 pm, and 85.36% by 5 pm.
