Ashoke Dinda of the Bharatiya Janata Party defeated Chandan Mondal of the
All India Trinamool Congress in Moyna, winning by a margin of 16,241 votes after all 17 rounds of counting.
Moyna in Purba Medinipur district is currently represented by Sangram Kumar Dolai of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. He won the 2021 election with 1,10,724 votes (51.8per cent vote share), defeating BJP’s Debkumar Nanda’s 91,449 votes (42.8per cent), by a margin of 19,275 votes.
Key issues in the constituency include irrigation support and flood control along Rupnarayan River for paddy and vegetable farming, road connectivity between Moyna CDB villages and markets, and drinking water security. Demand for government health centres, schools and local jobs to curb migration is prominent in this rural belt. Sangram Kumar Dolai has held the seat for TMC since 2011, overturning CPI(M)’s dominance (Rabindra Maity won in 2006 and 2016).
Moyna falls under the Tamluk Lok Sabha constituency, won by BJP’s Abhijit Gangopadhyay in 2024 by 77,733 votes over TMC. The seat’s consistent TMC hold amid BJP’s LS win highlights split mandates in coastal Medinipur.
