NEW DELHI: Even as the BJP performed strongly across the state, the Mandirbazar seat was retained by the Trinamool Congress, with Joydeb Halder (son of Kartick Chandra Halder) securing a narrow victory by polling 93,686 votes. He defeated BJP candidate Mallika Paik (wife of Ashok Paik) by a slim margin of 1,995 votes in a closely fought contest that remained tight through counting. Paik secured 91,691 votes but finished just short in second place.Mandirbazar is a Scheduled Caste Assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district. It is one of the seven assembly segments that fall under the Mathurapur (SC) Lok Sabha constituency.At present, Joydeb Halder of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA from Mandirbazar. He won the seat in the 2021 assembly election by securing 48.04% of the total votes polled. He was followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, Dilip Kumar Jatua, who received 36.27% of the votes.Halder has represented the constituency for multiple consecutive terms. He also won the seat in the 2016 and 2011 assembly elections as an AITC candidate.The election history shows that Mandirbazar (SC) has remained under AITC’s control for several consecutive elections, reflecting consistent voter support for the party in the constituency.
