R. Kathiravan of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (
DMK) won the Manapparai constituency with a margin of 1426 votes. He garnered 83041 votes, while All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate Dr. PL Vijayakumar came second with 81615 votes.
Manapparai Assembly constituency, located in Tiruchirappalli district of Tamil Nadu, forms part of the Karur Lok Sabha constituency. The seat was created after the 2008 delimitation of constituencies in the state. According to the 2011 Census estimates, the constituency is largely rural, with about 84.46 per cent of the population living in rural areas and 15.54 per cent in urban areas.
Scheduled Castes account for 17.16 per cent of the population, while Scheduled Tribes constitute around 0.07 per cent.
For the 2026 elections, the participating candidates are Dr. P. L. Vijayakumar (AIADMK), P. Abdul Samad (MNMK/DMK), M. Arunagiri (NTK), and R. Kathiravan (TVK).
In the last Assembly elections of 2021, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won the seat with P. Abdul Samad securing 98,077 votes, or 44.23 per cent of the vote share.
He defeated the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate R. Chandrasekar, who received 85,834 votes, by a margin of 12,243 votes. Historically, the constituency has seen the AIADMK hold the seat in its early elections after delimitation; R. Chandrasekar won in both 2011 and 2016.
The DMK captured the constituency in 2021 with P. Abdul Samad. The constituency is currently represented in the State Assembly by P. Abdul Samad, while the Karur Lok Sabha constituency is represented by Congress’ S. Jothimani.
