NEW DELHI: In Labpur, BJP’s Debasis Ojha (Haku Da) edged out a narrow victory, polling 1,06,402 votes and defeating Trinamool Congress candidate Abhijit Sinha (Rana) by a slim margin of 3,550 votes. The contest remained closely fought throughout the counting process, with both candidates locked in a tight race. Sinha secured 1,02,852 votes but ultimately fell short, finishing second in one of the tighter battles in the constituency.
Labpur is an assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. It is one of the seven assembly segments that fall under the Bolpur (SC) Lok Sabha constituency.
At present, Abhijit Sinha of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA from Labpur.
He won the seat in the 2021 assembly election by securing 51.14% of the total votes polled. He was followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Biswajit Mondal, who received 42.66% of the votes.
In the recently held assembly polls. Sinha was challenged by Debashish Ojha of the BJP.
Earlier, the constituency was represented by Islam Monirul of AITC, who won the seat in both the 2016 and 2011 assembly elections.
The election history shows that Labpur has remained under AITC’s control for several consecutive elections, reflecting consistent voter support for the party in the constituency.
