NEW DELHI: Even as the BJP swept much of the state, the Kultali seat stayed with the Trinamool Congress, where Ganesh Chandra Mondal secured a landslide victory with 1,46,435 votes. He defeated BJP candidate Madhabi Mahalder by a massive margin of 59,276 votes, maintaining an overwhelming lead throughout the counting process. Mahalder polled 87,159 votes but was left far behind in second place.
Kultali is one of the 294 assembly constituencies in West Bengal. It is a Scheduled Caste category seat and is located in the South 24 Parganas district. The constituency is part of the Jaynagar parliamentary constituency, which includes seven Assembly segments.
In the 2021 assembly election, Ganesh Chandra Mondal from the
All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) won the seat. In 2011 and 2016, the seat was won by Ram Sankar Halder from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM).
In the 2021 assembly election, AITC secured 51.57% of the vote share, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which fielded Mintu Halder, received 30.82% of the votes.
