In Kerala's Kattakkada, INC's MR Baiju received 56,846 votes to defeat CPI(M)'s Adv IB Satheesh by 7,136 votes. Satheesh got 49,710 votes.
Kattakkada Assembly constituency is a general seat in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala, encompassing Kattakkada, Malayinkeezhu, Maranalloor, Pallichal, Vilappil and Vilavoorkal panchayats with rubber plantations and hill agriculture shaping its politics.
The current MLA is I.B. Satheesh from CPI(M), elected in 2021 with 66,293 votes (45.52per cent), defeating INC's Malayinkeezhu Venugopal (43,062 votes, 29.57per cent) by 23,231 votes amid 72.21per cent turnout, while BJP's P.K. Krishnadas got 34,542 votes (23.72per cent).
Key issues include landslides and flooding from hill streams damaging plantations; poor rural road connectivity hindering crop exports; youth unemployment despite Gulf remittances; erratic water supply and sanitation gaps; overburdened PHCs; illegal quarrying polluting rivers; monsoon power outages; rising land prices squeezing small farmers; traffic near markets; and inadequate public transport challenging this LDF stronghold's rural economy.
