NEW DELHI: In Kakdwip constituency, BJP’s Dipankar Jana secured a narrow victory, polling 1,09,373 votes and defeating Trinamool Congress candidate Manturam Pakhira by a margin of 4,760 votes. The contest remained closely fought, with the lead shifting in early rounds before Jana pulled ahead. Pakhira garnered 1,04,613 votes but ultimately finished second in a tight race.
Kakdwip is one of the 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal. It is a General category seat and is located in the South 24 Parganas district. The constituency is part of the Mathurapur (SC) parliamentary constituency, which includes seven Assembly segments.
In the 2021 assembly election, Manturam Pakhira from the
All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) won the seat. He also won the constituency in the 2011 and 2016 assembly elections as an AITC candidate, making it three consecutive terms.
Trinamool gave ticket to Pakhira in the recently held assembly polls, entrusting him with retaining the seat. The
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fielded Dipankar Jana.
In the 2021 assembly election, AITC secured 52.14% of the vote share, while the BJP, which fielded Dipankar Jana, received 40.62% of the votes.
