NEW DELHI: Even as the BJP maintained a broader lead across the state, Jaynagar was retained by the Trinamool Congress, with Biswanath Das securing 1,08,194 votes. He defeated BJP candidate Aloke Halder by a margin of 26,350 votes, holding a steady advantage through the counting process. Halder polled 81,844 votes but finished second in the contest.
Jaynagar is a Scheduled Caste assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district. It is one of the seven assembly segments that fall under the Jaynagar (SC) Lok Sabha constituency.
At present, Biswanath Das of the
All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA from Jaynagar. He won the seat in the 2021 assembly election by securing 51.85% of the total votes polled.
He was followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Rabin Sardar, who received 32.74% of the votes.
Biswanath Das has also represented the constituency in the previous election, having won the seat in 2016 as an AITC candidate. Earlier, the constituency was won by Tarun Kanti Naskar of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) [SUCI(C)] in 2011.
The election history shows that Jaynagar (SC) has seen changes in political representation over the years, while AITC has maintained a strong presence in recent elections.
