Nandita Chowdhury of the Trinamool Congress defeats Shyamal Kumar Hati of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Howrah Dakshin, winning by a margin of 7,828 votes after all 22 rounds of counting.
Howrah Dakshin is an assembly seat numbered 173 in Howrah district, West Bengal. It forms part of the Howrah Lok Sabha constituency and covers specific wards (Nos. 35, 38-41, 44-46) of Howrah Municipal Corporation along with gram panchayats like Duila, Jorhat, Panchpara, and Thanamakua from Sankrail CD block.
This mixed urban-rural constituency features high population density opposite Kolkata across the Hooghly River, with around 294,099 total electors.
It has minimal SC/ST reservations and saw 73.58per cent voter turnout in recent elections. In the 2021 election, TMC's Nandita Chowdhury won decisively, securing a majority over BJP's Sahana Guha Roy who received 16,277 votes (8.30per cent share). NOTA polled 3,816 votes (1.95per cent), BSP 1,249 votes (0.64per cent), with TMC maintaining its hold.
