DMK secured a narrow victory with 75,523 votes, winning by a margin of 3,329 votes. He defeated DMK candidate A Shanmugam, who polled 72,194 votes. TVK candidate K Rakesh finished third.
The Harur constituency witnessed a significant electoral shift in the 2026 Assembly elections. The DMK fielded A Shanmugam, aiming to overturn the previous result. He faced a stiff challenge from the incumbent V Sampathkumar of the
AIADMK, who fought to retain his stronghold. The entry of K Rakesh representing the TVK and Anitha A of the NTK added a fresh layer of competition.
In the 2021 election, V Sampathkumar (AIADMK) secured victory with 99,061 votes (50.46% vote share), defeating A Kumar (CPI-M) by a margin of 30,362 votes.
In the 2016 election, R Murugan (AIADMK) won a multi-cornered contest with 64,568 votes (34.3% vote share), defeating S Rajendran (DMK) by 11,421 votes.
Voter turnout reached 87.63%, a notable increase from 78.49% in 2021. This surge is largely attributed to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive, which cleansed the rolls of duplicate and deceased entries while significantly boosting the registration of first-time voters and migrant labourers.
