Haripal election results 2026: BJP's Madhumita Ghosh wins against TMC's Karabi Manna

NEW DELHI: Madhumita Ghosh of the Bharatiya Janata Party won the Haripal constituency with 1,13,332 votes, defeating Trinamool Congress candidate Karabi Manna by a margin of 3,488 votes. Manna secured 1,09,844 votes. All India Secular Front's Sk. Mujaffar Ali (Maja) finished third with 12,537 votes, followed by Congress's Azad Saif with 1,846 votes.

Haripal (constituency no. 196) is a general-category constituency in Hooghly district, part of the Arambag Lok Sabha constituency. The seat is largely rural, encompassing the Haripal community development block. It borders Tarakeswar and Dhanekhali blocks and is known primarily for agriculture, particularly potato cultivation, which is a major source of livelihood for voters in this constituency.

In 2021, Dr Karabi Manna of the TMC won the seat, defeating BJP's Samiran Mitra. In 2016, the TMC also held Haripal. The constituency had been firmly in the TMC fold since 2011. Dr Karabi Manna, a medical professional turned politician, was re-fielded by the TMC for 2026.

The seat was not considered one of the most keenly contested in Hooghly district, but the BJP's sustained effort to build a local organisation kept the margin from becoming too comfortable. Agricultural distress and rural connectivity remain central issues for voters here.
