Dharapuram Assembly constituency is located in Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu and is reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste category. AIADMK candidate Sathyabama P emerged as the winner in the 2026 assembly polls beating DMK's Indirani T by a margin of 16,727 votes.
Sathyabama secured 81,100 votes while Indirani T stood second with 64,373 and TVK candidate landed third with 46,438 votes.
The constituency forms part of the Erode Lok Sabha constituency and has historically witnessed contests between the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), and the Indian National Congress (INC), along with regional parties such as the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK).
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,38,070 electors, with 1,82,911 valid votes polled. Indian National Congress candidate V S Kalimuthu secured victory with 83,538 votes, defeating AIADMK candidate K Ponnusamy, who received 73,521 votes. The margin of victory stood at 10,017 votes, marking a notable win for the Congress in the constituency.
Earlier, in the 2011 Assembly elections, Dharapuram had 2,05,145 electors, with 1,62,248 valid votes recorded.
AIADMK candidate K Ponnusamy won the seat with 83,856 votes, defeating DMK candidate R Jayanthi, who secured 68,831 votes. The winning margin of 15,025 votes reflected strong support for the AIADMK during that election cycle.
Historically, the constituency has alternated between different parties. DMK candidate P Prabavathi won the seat in 2006, while PMK candidate V Sivakami secured victory in 2001. Earlier, DMK’s R Saraswathy won the constituency in 1996, indicating that Dharapuram has remained politically competitive, with electoral outcomes often influenced by alliance dynamics and broader state-level political trends.
