Brics Summit 2024 Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He said that India was ready to offer all help to the country to bring about a peaceful solution to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.He arrived in Kazan, Russia, on Tuesday to attend the 16th Brics Summit, which is being held under the chairmanship of Russia. The summit brings together leaders from Brics member countries, and PM Modi is expected to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts during the event.Ahead of his departure from India, PM Modi shared a message on social media platform X, saying, "Leaving for Kazan, Russia, to take part in the BRICS Summit. India attaches immense importance to Brics, and I look forward to extensive discussions on a wide range of subjects. I also look forward to meeting various leaders there."In a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Modi emphasized the significance of Brics, saying, "I am departing today on a two-day visit to Kazan at the invitation of H.E. Mr. Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, to attend the 16th Brics Summit." He highlighted India’s commitment to close cooperation within Brics and the forum’s role in addressing key global issues such as climate change, economic collaboration, and building resilient supply chains.The PMO further noted that the inclusion of new members last year has enhanced Brics' inclusivity and global agenda. The statement also underscored the importance of PM Modi’s visit in reinforcing the strategic partnership between India and Russia, building on the July 2024 summit in Moscow.The 16th Brics summit in Kazan, taking place from October 22-24, will provide a platform for the leaders to discuss a wide range of topics under the theme "Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security," according to the ministry of external affairs (MEA). It will also allow an assessment of Brics initiatives and explore potential areas for future collaboration.This visit marks PM Modi's second trip to Russia this year, following his participation in the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit in July, where he met with President Putin and was awarded Russia's highest civilian honor, the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle.Brics, initially formed as Bric after a meeting between the leaders of Russia, India, and China in 2006, expanded to include South Africa in 2010.
