NEW DELHI: Despite the BJP’s wider lead in the state, Baruipur Purba seat was won by the Trinamool Congress, with Bivas Sardar securing 1,20,987 votes. He defeated BJP candidate Tumpa Sardar by a margin of 31,815 votes, maintaining a decisive lead through the counting process. Tumpa Sardar polled 89,172 votes but finished well behind in second place.
Baruipur Purba is a Scheduled Caste assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district. It is one of the seven assembly segments that fall under the Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency.
At present, Bivas Sardar of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA from Baruipur Purba. He won the seat in the 2021 Assembly election by securing 54.75% of the total votes polled.
He was followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Chandan Mondal, who received 32.7% of the votes.
Baruipur Purba has been a Trinamool stronghold since 2011, when it was won by the party's Nirmal Mondal, who retained the constituency in 2016.
The election history shows that Baruipur Paschim has remained under AITC’s control for several consecutive elections, reflecting strong and consistent voter support for the party in the constituency.
