Sajal Ghosh of the Bharatiya Janata Party defeats Sayantika Banerjee of the All India Trinamool Congress in Baranagar, winning by a margin of 16,956 votes after all 13 rounds of counting.
Baranagar is an assembly seat in North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal (No. 113). It is part of the Dum Dum Lok Sabha constituency and covers Baranagar Municipality plus wards 17-20 of Kamarhati Municipality.
This fully urban constituency has about 219,000 electors and 252 polling stations, with SC at 4.92 per cent and ST at 0.55 per cent. Voter turnout is typically 73-79per cent.
In 2021, Tapas Roy (TMC) won with 85,615 votes (53.4per cent), defeating BJP's Parno Mittra (50,468 votes, 31.5per cent) by 35,147 votes. Meanwhile, Sayantika Banerjee (TMC) won the 2024 bye-election with 69,251 votes (margin 8,148 over BJP). West Bengal has 294 assembly seats in total.
