Assembly polls: 1,906 candidates remain in race across Assam, Kerala, Puducherry
New Delhi: A total 1,906 candidates remain in the fray for assembly elections in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry after the last date for withdrawal of nominations expired on Friday. While 722 candidates are fighting across Assam's 126 seats, 890 are contesting to represent the 140 seats in Kerala assembly. Puducherry has a total 294 candidates in the fray across its 30 seats. A total 4,019 nominations were filed across the three states/UT by 2,511 candidates.

A total 250 candidates withdrew their nomination before the 3 pm deadline on Friday. Assam, Kerala and Puducherry will go to polls in a single phase on April 9. For the by-elections to be held simultaneously to five assembly seats across Karnataka, Goa, Nagaland and Tripura, a total 49 candidates will face the elections.

EC on Friday said the returning officers shall publish the list of contesting candidates in the official gazette, as required by the Conduct of Election Rules, 1961.
