“As if Hardeep Puri is giving money from his pocket…”: OPPN STRONG take on fuel excise move

Opposition leaders have reacted sharply to the Centre’s decision to cut excise duty on petrol and diesel, calling the relief “insufficient” amid soaring fuel prices. Congress MPs Manish Tewari and Pramod Tiwari criticised the government for presenting the reduction as generous, while pointing out that excise duties on petrol and diesel have increased drastically since 2014. They argued that the small tax rollback barely offsets the heavy burden on citizens and labelled it a “token relief” after years of high taxation. The comments add fuel to the ongoing political debate as parties scrutinise government policies, questioning whether the move will meaningfully ease the financial stress on households across the country.
