‘As a Delhi girl, I have to say this’: Woman says Bengaluru deserves to be India’s capital

There is a new topic trending on social media, and it comes from a Delhi woman who has openly shared how she feels about two of India’s biggest cities. Simridhi Makhija, who moved to Bengaluru a little over two months ago, has said in a video that Bengaluru should actually be India’s national capital.

She had gone back to Delhi recently to meet her parents, and after that trip, she spoke about how different life feels in both cities. In her video, she also wrote, “As a Delhi girl, I still got to say this,” and that single line has now turned into a huge online conversation.

She points out three key reasons

In the video, Simridhi explains why she feels this way. She talks about air quality, safety and infrastructure as the main reasons behind her opinion.

‘Being in Delhi felt like being in a gas chamber’

Her first reason is pollution. She says the air in Delhi has become very difficult to deal with in the past few weeks, while Bengaluru feels much better in comparison.

Sharing her experience, she said, “Being in Delhi felt like being in a gas chamber. I don't know why it is still the national capital.”

‘I feel safe heading home at 10 pm’

She then speaks about safety. She says she personally feels safer walking alone late in the evening in Bengaluru.

She said, “It's 10 pm, I just met a friend, and I feel safe heading home. Roads are safe, women's security is not a big issue.”

‘Why should any international guest be subjected to bad air and bad roads?’

Her third point is about roads and public spaces. She says Bengaluru feels more comfortable for people who walk and move around the city.

Her words were, “Why should any international guest visiting our country be subjected to bad air, bad roads, and unwalkable spaces?” They should be welcomed in a better city like Bengaluru.”

She had also gone viral earlier for saying that she wants to move her parents out of Delhi.

What social media users are saying

The video has received a lot of reactions. Some people support her view, while many others have strongly disagreed.

One user commented, “Being a wise content creator, instead of floating the idea to make another city the capital, why don't you raise your voice to make Delhi a better place?”

Another person wrote about Bengaluru’s roads and said, “A small correction! Roads are actually not safe. Bengaluru roads have deadly potholes.”

A third user shared a sharp opinion and said, “See how there's this tendency of switching to a new city once you've ruined an old one? You think Delhi was always this toxic?”

The capital city debate only gets louder

With this one video, the ongoing discussion around air quality, safety and public infrastructure in big cities has picked up again online. While some agree with Simridhi’s take on Bengaluru, others feel the focus should remain on fixing Delhi’s problems.

For now, the debate continues across social platforms, with people openly sharing which city they feel does better and why.
