Jeo Baby’s ‘Kaathal: The Core’, starring Mammootty selected at Imagine India Film Festival in Madrid

Jeo Baby’s directorial ‘Kaathal: The Core’, starring Mammootty has been selected for the Imagine India Film Festival in Madrid. The makers have confirmed that the film has made it to the list of films selected for Imagineindia 2024. Other films in the list from India include Sudeep Kanwal’s ‘Privacy’, Kanchan Pant’s ‘Dear Latika’, Anjan Dutt’s ‘Kaleidoscope Now’, and Jayant Somalkar’s ‘A Match’ among others.

“Excited to share that 'Kaathal - The Core' has been chosen for the prestigious Imagine India Film Festival in Madrid! Grateful for this opportunity,” the makers said in a social media post.

Starring Mammootty in the lead role, ‘Kaathal: The Core’ tells the story of a closeted gay man in a heterosexual marriage. The film also has Jyotika playing a crucial role. The film was initially released theatrically on November 23, 2023.

Mammootty’s bold choice of opting for the film, and stepping into the shoes of the protagonist Mathew Devassy, a closeted gay man earned him a lot of praise. The film was a success in terms of the reception as well as the box office collection.

While writers Paulson Skaria and Adarsh Sukumaran deserve pats on the back and more for the gently unfolding story, it is the director’s vision that gives the film a wow factor in key moments. Good movies can make society think and even initiate change. Kaathal - The Core might be one such.”
