Huma Qureshi on breaking stereotypes about female perception in Bollywood: I'm not a krantrikari, I am not trying to shatter any myth: WATCH video - Exclusive
Huma Qureshi is back with the season 3 of her show 'Maharani', which begins streaming today. From 'Gangs Of Wasseypur' to 'Maharani' and from turning a producer to winning accolades for a song in a Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie, Huma has indeed come a long way. She also broke stereotypes about the perception of female characters. During a conversation with ETimes, Huma shed light on it and said, "I'm not a krantikari nor am I trying to set an example. I'm just living my truth. Mereko lagta hai ke bachpan se main bohot sunder hoon. Maybe when I came into this industry, I read a few articles about me and wondered why a person feels that way. I dress the way I feel like, I look good, I do the films I want to do. If that makes a statement, so be it, but I'm not trying to make any statement. If it just breaks stereotypes then so be it. I am not trying to shatter any myth."
The actress also admitted that she's worked very hard to reach a point where she doesn't feel like she can be replaceable. Earlier Huma had said that actresses are a dispensable commodity. "I think about what I was going through at that time - I was made to feel like that. Or I was forcing myself to feel that way because I think I worked very hard to not feel that way anymore or not allow anyone to make me feel that way."
Huma further admitted that self-love and self-care have made her feel better amidst bad days. "Since the last few years I have a practice of journaling. When I feel my life is disintegrating, whether it's working or something personal, this habit helps like self therapy. Sometimes you tell stories to yourself which you hold back from the world. I feel every actor or every human being should practice some sort of self-therapy or self care because it takes you a long way!"
Having said that, Huma is quite proud of her journey, "I was having this conversation with Subhash sir (Director Subhash Kapoor) and he said to me something so insightful. He said that never think you are where you are inspite of your journey. Think of it in a way that you are where you are because of your journey. And that just hit home. If I had not gone through that phase where I was not doing my best work or the best work was not coming to me, then I wouldn't have worked harder. I think when you dilate it inside you, it gets into the physical practice of manifestations."
