Stephen Curry and 'Stranger Things' star Caleb McLaughlin lead underdog tale as ‘GOAT’ hits India on February 20
Get set for the release of 'GOAT' on February 20, an electrifying animated action-comedy that features the iconic Stephen Curry alongside the talented Caleb McLaughlin. This story is a celebration of the underdog, evoking Curry's own journey from humble beginnings to global recognition.
‘GOAT’ will release in theaters on February 20 in English and Hindi. The animated action comedy brings together Stephen Curry and Caleb McLaughlin in a story about heart, doubt, and teamwork. Curry voices a character in a film that echoes his own path from underestimated talent to global star, while McLaughlin leads as Will, a small goat chasing a pro dream in a fierce sport.

Underdog journey at the heart of ‘GOAT’

As reported by Sony Pictures Entertainment India, in the film, Will earns a rare shot at the big leagues of Roarball, a co-ed, full-contact game ruled by larger, tougher animals. His arrival rattles teammates, but he wants to change the sport and prove that small players belong.

Curry sees himself in that fight. “I relate to the entire story of ‘GOAT,’” he says. “My journey resembles Will’s, being overlooked, underrated, but finding your self-confidence through it all. It’s about the power of the team: No matter what walk of life, you can’t do anything great without the people around you. It’s cool to bring that into ‘GOAT,’ knowing how relatable it is, not just to my story, but to everybody.”

Caleb McLaughlin on why underdog stories connect

McLaughlin believes audiences recognize their own struggles in Will. “I think underdog stories hit people because we’ve all felt like underdogs at some point,” he says. “We all start from a low place and have to push through our own version of concrete.
And when you finally reach a goal, you remember the moments you struggled, or wanted to give up, but didn’t. People doubt you along the way, and I think audiences relate to that. These stories usually find people right at the moment they feel like quitting, and watching an underdog win reminds them to keep going.”The voice cast also includes Gabrielle Union, Nicola Coughlan, Nick Kroll, David Harbour, Jenifer Lewis, Aaron Pierre, Patton Oswalt, Andrew Santino, Bobby Lee, Eduardo Franco, Sherry Cola, Jelly Roll, and Jennifer Hudson.
