In Ponneri, Dr Ravi MS of TVK secured a commanding victory, polling 1,10,439 votes. He defeated Congress candidate Durai Chandrasekar by a margin of 55,768 votes.
AIADMK’s Balaraman P finished third with 51,468 votes, as the constituency delivered a decisive mandate in favour of TVK.
Ponneri saw a rematch between
incumbent INC (SPA) candidate Durai Chandrasekar and AIADMK (NDA) representative P Balaraman. TVK’s Dr M S Ravi added a new dimension by targeting young voters, while NTK’s Rajathi M. and BSP’s J. Bhavani Ilavenil made it a multi-cornered contest.
In 2021, Chandrasekar (INC) won with 94,528 votes (44.9% vote share), defeating Balaraman (AIADMK) by 9,689 votes, while NTK secured a notable third position. In 2016, Balaraman (AIADMK) had won by 19,336 votes against the DMK, highlighting Ponneri’s alternating electoral pattern.
Ponneri recorded a marked rise in voter participation, with turnout climbing to 89.76% in 2026 compared to 79.9% in 2021.
