Vijayawada: Panic gripped residents of Pratyusha Apartment in Patamatalanka on Tuesday after a major fire accident followed by a gas cylinder explosion, leaving several people injured, with one person said to be in critical condition.The fire reportedly broke out in Flat No. 302, the residence of ACP Satyanandam, due to a suspected short circuit. Police and fire department officials believe the intense summer heat may have triggered the electrical fault. Flames quickly spread near the AC outdoor unit, where a gas cylinder had been placed.Moments later, the cylinder exploded with a deafening sound, sending rocks, concrete pieces and debris flying into nearby apartments and onto the road. Terrified residents rushed out of their homes as thick smoke engulfed the building premises.Several people sustained injuries after being hit by falling debris during the explosion. Resident Srinivasa Rao suffered severe head injuries after a large rock struck him during the blast. Witnesses said he collapsed on the spot and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital. Doctors reportedly described his condition as very critical.
Fire personnel rushed to the apartment complex and managed to bring the flames under control before the blaze could spread to adjoining flats. Police evacuated residents from nearby portions of the building as a precautionary measure.The explosion caused tension in the busy residential locality, drawing large crowds to the scene. Patamata police registered a case and launched an investigation into the exact cause of the fire and the circumstances leading to the cylinder explosion. Officials are also examining whether safety precautions were properly followed in the apartment complex.
