Vijayawada: Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party (TDPP) leader and Narasaraopet MP, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, has urged Union railway minister Aswani Vaishnaw to sanction a new railway line connecting Piduguralla Junction with Ramayapatnam Port, stating that the proposed corridor would significantly boost industrial growth, freight movement, and port-led economic development in the state.
MP met Vaishnaw on Monday and explained the importance of the proposed Piduguralla-Ramayapatnam railway line. He said the project would provide faster and efficient transportation access to the upcoming port while reducing dependence on road transport. The rail connectivity would greatly benefit the cement, limestone, agriculture and logistics sectors in Palnadu, Bapatla, and Prakasam districts, he told the railway minister.
“The proposed rail corridor would strengthen export-import activities and improve linkage between inland industrial clusters and the coastal region. The project would also create employment opportunities and enhance regional infrastructure development,” he said.
In another representation, Devarayalu requested the railway minister to introduce a Vande Bharat express between Vijayawada and Bengaluru, citing growing travel demand between Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. He said both cities share strong educational, employment, healthcare, and business linkages, with thousands of passengers travelling daily between the two states.
According to the MP, passengers are currently facing limited premium travel options on the route. “A Vande Bharat service would reduce travel time and provide better connectivity for students, employees, businesspersons, and families travelling frequently between the two cities and nearby regions,” the MP said, and further appealed to the railway minister to provide stoppage facilities either at Nadikudi or Piduguralla stations for 20701 Secunderabad-Tirupati Vande Bharat, and 12796 Lingampalli-Vijayawada train.
He pointed out that passengers from Palnadu region continue to face difficulties in accessing fast rail connectivity to major cities despite heavy passenger movement from the area. He said Nadikudi and Piduguralla stations cater to a large number of students, traders, employees, and daily commuters travelling for education, employment and business purposes. Devarayalu urged Vaishnaw to consider the proposals favourably in view of growing public demand and regional development needs.
