Water resources minister Ramanaidu pedals to CM camp office
Vijayawada: Water resources minister Nimmala Ramanaidu on Friday cycled nearly 10 kilometres from his Vijayawada camp office to the chief minister’s camp office at Undavalli as part of the state govt’s 'No Vehicle Day' initiative.Braving the scorching summer heat, the minister chose to cycle instead of using his official convoy to attend the programme where chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu distributed compensation of Rs 307 crore and land pattas to Polavaram displaced families. Ramanaidu said he decided to cycle to office to contribute towards reducing the consumption of petrol, diesel, and electricity in line with the Prime Minister’s call for austerity and energy savings.“Conserving fuel and power resources is essential for the future of the country and coming generations. Public representatives and citizens should adopt measures that reduce unnecessary fuel usage and encourage environmentally responsible practices. Even small changes in daily habits can collectively make a significant impact on energy conservation and national savings,” he said. Criticising YSRCP leaders for ridiculing the PM’s appeal, he said it's unfortunate that a serious appeal aimed at safeguarding the nation’s future and promoting savings is being treated lightly by opposition leaders.
The 'No Vehicle Day' initiative gained prominence after Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently urged people and public representatives to minimise unnecessary use of fuel-powered vehicles and promote energy-saving practices amid global uncertainties and rising concerns over resource conservation.
