ASR woman rescued from Oman, to return home by May 15
Visakhapatnam: The efforts to rescue a tribal woman from ASR district, who was allegedly subjected to severe harassment by her employer in Muscat, Oman, have been successful. The woman, Ennikela Santhi, a mother of two, is set to return to India by May 15.
Government authorities coordinated with the Indian Embassy in Oman and made necessary arrangements for her travel. After receiving a request from Santhi’s relatives, Araku Lok Sabha MP Gumma Thanuja Rani sought assistance from the ministry of external affairs. She also extended financial aid of Rs 1 lakh to support Santhi’s travel and related expenses. Alluri Sitarama Raju district falls under the Araku Lok Sabha constituency.
Ennikela Santhi, a resident of Mallampeta village in Pinakota panchayat of Anantagiri mandal, had travelled to Muscat five months ago on a two-year contract to work as a domestic help at a businessman’s residence.
Santhi, a mother of a two-year-old boy and a one-year-old girl, had gone to the Middle East to earn money for the treatment of her son, who is reportedly suffering from a heart-related ailment.
She recently sent a video message to her relatives alleging harassment by her employer and urged them to inform authorities. Her family then approached MP Tanuja Rani and her husband Vinay, who extended support and facilitated intervention through the External Affairs Ministry.
According to the MP, Santhi is expected to board a flight on May 14 and arrive in Visakhapatnam on May 15.
