Andhra Pradesh HC grants interim relief to former Gannavaram MLA
Vijayawada: The high court on Friday granted interim anticipatory bail to former Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamshi in the alleged attempt to murder case registered against him by Machavaram police following a complaint lodged by Nutakki Sunil. Vamshi moved the high court seeking anticipatory bail on the ground that the FIR was lodged after an unexplained delay of 16 months. The alleged incident happened before the elections. Sunil, who is said to be a follower of incumbent MLA Yarlagadda Venkat Rao, was severely injured in the incident. It was alleged in the complaint lodged recently that Vamshi, along with his followers, attacked him with an intention to kill, and he sustained grievous injuries. The counsel for Vamshi, Devi Satya Sri, pleaded with the court to consider the request for interim protection as Justice Y Lakshmana Rao called it a day on Friday. She said the matter was listed four times, and all the documents sought were filed. As the petitioner is facing the threat of arrest, she sought interim protection until the next date of hearing. Considering her request, Justice Lakshmana Rao directed police not to arrest Vamshi until the next date of hearing, which will be after the Sankranthi vacation.
