The San Francisco 49ers are heading into the most important game of their season this Saturday. Week 18 brings a winner-take-all clash with the Seattle Seahawks, and the 49ers were previously at a disadvantage when running back Christian McCaffrey was dealing with a back issue after the Bears game and did not practice on Tuesday.
Fans feared that the team would be at a disadvantage without their talented running back not being able to play. Fortunately, the running back returned for practice this Wednesday and is now cleared of injury for Week 18, which is great news for the 49ers as they get ready for this crucial match against the Seahawks
McCaffrey’s practice return steadies 49ers as other key starters remain uncertain
McCaffrey’s initial absence sparked questions about his availability for the Seattle matchup on Saturday. To everyone’s relief, he returned to the field for a limited practice on Wednesday and was not listed with any injury designation on the final report. According to ESPN’s Nick Wagoner, McCaffrey does not carry an injury status for Week 18, signaling that he is expected to play.
He enters the final week ranked eighth in rushing yards and first among running backs in receiving yards. His ability to create mismatches is central to San Francisco’s game plan, especially in a high-pressure matchup against a familiar division rival.
The update also highlights how far McCaffrey has come.
Last season, injuries limited him to just four games. This year, he is on track to appear in all 17 regular-season contests, a major turnaround for a player who has battled durability questions in the past. While McCaffrey’s condition is encouraging, other injury reports still loom large for the team.
Left tackle Trent Williams is questionable with a hamstring issue, while George Kittle has an ankle injury but stating he plans to play in Week 18. Despite these hurdles, having McCaffrey available is a huge advantage and is sure to give a big boost to the team as they head to their game against the Seahawks.
