Yogi announces world-class sports complex alongside int’l cricket stadium in Gorakhpur
Gorakhpur: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday announced a world-class sports complex in Gorakhpur while laying the foundation for the 46-acre international cricket stadium, which is being built at a cost of nearly Rs 393 crore at Tal Nador.
The proposed sports complex will be developed on 60 acres adjacent to the international cricket stadium, which will have a seating capacity of 30,000 spectators. Yogi said the sports complex would include facilities for major indoor games along with outdoor sports infrastructure, including hockey.
Addressing the gathering, the chief minister said his govt has made Uttar Pradesh “mafia-free, riot-free, curfew-free and free from
hooliganism”, adding that development naturally creates employment opportunities.
He urged people to remain cautious of those trying to divide society based on caste, language and region. “Whenever such people came to power, they promoted lawlessness, disorder and anarchy, and worked for the benefit of their own families instead of
public welfare,” Yogi said.
He added that the double-engine govt is focused on welfare and the generation of employment for youth.
The chief minister said the project would strengthen sports culture in eastern Uttar Pradesh while boosting hospitality, retail and jobs in the region. “Five years ago, this area was barren and encroached upon. Today, the land is being transformed into a platform for shaping the future of youth,” he said.
He also said a veterinary college was being established nearby and highlighted the govt’s push for sports infrastructure, including
playgrounds, mini stadiums, sports colleges and the sports university in Meerut. He added that more than 534 medal-winning sportspersons had already been given govt jobs, while recruitment for another 500 players was underway.
