Vijay must now fulfil promises: Farmers

Trichy: Tamil Nadu Kaviri Vivasaayigal Paathukappu Sangam has urged TVK president Joseph Vijay to fulfill his election promises to farmers, including raising minimum support prices for crops and waiving crop loans, right from his very first day in office.In a letter to Vijay congratulating him on his party's victory in the assembly elections, the farmers' association's secretary, ‘Swamimalai' Vimalanathan, highlighted Vijay's specific pledges to procure paddy at Rs3,500 per quintal and sugarcane at Rs4,500 per quintal, along with a complete waiver of farmers' loans. "Farmers across Tamil Nadu voted for you trusting these promises. We have not forgotten them," he said.The sangam recalled Vijay's strong emotional connection with the farming community. "The first file signed after taking oath should be an announcement implementing these commitments," Vimalanathan said, claiming that such a precedent has been set by chief ministers of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. The association reminded him of his election campaign speeches in which he acknowledged that he deeply understands the pain and struggles of farmers.
