AIADMK Rajya Sabha MP C Ve Shanmugam resigned from the Upper House on Thursday, submitting his resignation to Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan in New Delhi following his victory in the assembly election.
The former minister, who won from the Mailam assembly constituency, is expected to concentrate on state politics, according to sources.
Shanmugam had previously handled key portfolios in the state including school education, commercial taxes, law, and mines and minerals under the leadership of J Jayalalithaa, O Panneerselvam, and also Edappadi K Palaniswami.
Since 2001, he has won twice each from the Tindivanam and Villupuram constituencies.
