T'puram: Neyyattinkara excise team arrested two persons with 51g of MDMA and 2.6g of cannabis during a vehicle inspection conducted at Mukkola in Vizhinjam on Wednesday evening.
The arrested are Jishnu (30) of Vellarikund and Sahal Rahman (36) of Malappuram.
According to excise officials, the accused were allegedly involved in supplying narcotic substances at tourist destinations, including Kovalam and Poovar.
Acting on a tip-off, the team intensified vehicle inspections in coastal region and intercepted the duo around 5.30pm while they were travelling in a rented car from Ernakulam.
Preliminary probe revealed that the accused were allegedly involved in supplying synthetic drugs to youngsters, including students of schools and colleges in the city.
Excise officials said the seized MDMA has an estimated market value of around Rs 3.5 lakh. Officials also said Jishnu had earlier been involved in a ganja case in which around 4kg of cannabis was seized.
The arrest was carried out by a team led by excise CI J Shamir Khan along with preventive officers M S Arun Kumar and Ajit Kumar, and other personnel. TNN
