Chatra: A 52-year-old woman returning home after morning walk was run over by a truck on NH-22 in Chatra district on Friday, police said. The deceased was identified as Anju Devi, a resident of Jori Khurd.
After the accident, angry residents blocked the road, demanding compensation and stricter traffic regulation. Villagers also vandalised several vehicles. Witnesses said the truck driver tried to flee, but locals caught him before allegedly assaulting him and damaging his truck. Officer in-charge of Vashishth Nagar police station, Amit Kumar Singh, rescued the driver. Later, SDO Jahur Alam barred plying of heavy vehicles in Jori market area from 5 am to 8 pm and fixed a 20 kmph speed limit.
