Dumka: Two persons were arrested and sent to jail on Friday for killing a three-year-old girl and throwing her body into a well in Godda district late Thursday night.
The accused were a 60-year-old man and another 30-year-old.
The girl went missing from her maternal grandmother’s house on Thursday afternoon.
Family members and villagers launched a frantic search for the child, but she could not be traced for several hours. During the search, villagers reportedly spotted a man carrying a sack around midnight. They alleged that the man secretly dumped the sack into a nearby well before trying to leave.
Suspicious villagers caught the man and questioned him, following which he allegedly confessed that the sack contained the body of the missing girl. Villagers then recovered the body from the well.
During interrogation by villagers, he allegedly revealed the name of another accomplice, who was subsequently caught and assaulted before a police team.
"Both the accused are neighbours of the girl's maternal grandparents. Investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the crime," the OC said.
