Ranchi: Miscreants decamped with mobile phones besides cash, totalling Rs 5 lakh, from a mobile store located under the Sukhdeonagar police station limits on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, police said.
The officer in-charge of the Sukhdeonagar police station, K K Sahu, said, “Police were informed about the incident around 11 am on Thursday by the shop owner. On reaching the spot, the locks were found broken. As per the shop owner’s statement, four mobile phones worth Rs 1.25 lakh and Rs 4 lakh in cash were stolen from the shop.”
Forensic teams reached the spot to help in the investigation. “Efforts are on to identify and nab the miscreants. An FIR has been registered,” he added.
Several cases of theft have been reported in Ranchi in the past few days, raising safety concerns among residents.
Five miscreants belonging to two gangs were arrested on September 2 for their alleged involvement in two cases of theft reported under the Kanke police station area. Jewellery worth several lakhs and Rs 7 lakh in cash were recovered from the arrested accused, police added.
