Ranchi: A 35-year-old man shot his girlfriend in the neck and hand, before dying by suicide with the same gun in the district on Friday.
In a video he shot before killing himself, accused Sunil Kewat (35) said he was in a relationship with Payal Kumari (29) for the past six months. He shot Payal as her parents were planning to marry her off with someone else since he was unemployed, Sunil said .
Payal, a teacher at Raj Convent School, was on way to her school around 8:30 am on Friday when Sunil shot her twice near KDH ground. Sunil then went to his brother’s Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) quarter, wher ehe used to stay, and shot himself dead.
Payal was taken to the CCL hospital in Dakra, which referred her to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (Rims), Ranchi, in a critical condition.
The officer in-charge of the Khalari police station, Jaideep Toppo, said, “Our officer is at Rims, where the woman is under treatment. We would try to record her statement in the case. We would register a case under attempt to murder charges in which the accused person would be stated dead.”
The National Crime Record Bureau, 2023 report, said 25 persons were killed in cases related to love affair in state.
