Chatra: Police arrested a member of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) from Lohardaga for allegedly making extortion calls, and getting involved in arson.
The accused has been identified as Ravindra Singh alias Ravindra Singh Kharwar.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, DSP (headquarters) Sunil Kumar Singh said, officials of NCC Limited, engaged in mining and transportation work in the Amrapali coal project area under Tandwa police station limits, were allegedly receiving extortion calls in the name of JJMP and the banned Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC).
Police said that on the night of Jan 24, five unidentified criminals intercepted a truck engaged in coal extraction work for NCC Limited. The attackers allegedly assaulted the truck driver and supervisor, and set the vehicle on fire.
“So far, we have come to know about Kharwar’s involvement and so he has been arrested,” the DSP said.
