Fresh security concerns have emerged in West Bengal after several country-made bombs were recovered near the banks of a pond in Kod village under Mallarpur police station limits in Birbhum district. Police immediately reached the spot, cordoned off the area, and launched a detailed investigation into the source and intended use of the explosives. Bomb disposal squads were also deployed as authorities carried out combing operations in the surrounding region. The incident has once again brought focus on the recurring recovery of crude explosives in politically sensitive parts of West Bengal. Earlier during the elections, nearly 100 crude bombs were recovered in South 24 Parganas ahead of Phase 2 polling, prompting heightened security measures and intervention by the Election Commission. With repeated bomb recovery incidents surfacing across districts, questions are again being raised over law and order and the continued presence of illegal explosives in the state.
