Dumka: Deoghar district education officer (DEO) Vinod Kumar has suspended a teacher posted at the Plus Two High School in Sarwan block with immediate effect and has written to the state headquarters seeking suitable action against the acting headmaster after an objectionable video was found playing on the digital screen of a smart board in a classroom on Thursday.
The action came after a video of the incident went viral on social media the same day, with district administration officials and other higher-ups, including the chief minister, tagged in the posts.
Kumar said the department treated the matter seriously and ordered a probe to determine how the video was played on the digital screen and who was responsible for the lapse.
“By the time the alleged video was played, the school time was already over, and a few students were still inside their classroom without a teacher,” the DEO said, adding that the incident might have been the handiwork of one of the students.
“Presently, a teacher has been suspended and the state headquarters has been apprised of the matter, seeking suitable action against acting headmaster,” he said.
The DEO said the students stayed back after school hours on Thursday to ensure their registration for a summer camp being organised during the summer vacation starting from Friday.
“Strict action would be taken against those responsible if negligence on the part of the school administration is established,” the DEO said.
He added that smart classrooms and digital screens were introduced to provide modern education and practical learning, “not to play obscene songs or objectionable content”.
