E-rickshaw falls in Hazaribag river, 8 injured

Hazaribag: Eight persons travelling in an e-rickshaw sustained injuries after the vehicle plunged into Barwan river under Ichak police station limits of the district on Monday. Of them, two passengers remained critical. The e-rickshaw was travelling from Alounja village towards Ichak Bazaar when its driver lost control while allegedly trying to steer clear of a speeding SUV coming from the opposite direction.

“Locals and the police rescued the passengers and shifted them to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital in Hazaribag,” Gautam Kumar, the officer-in-charge of Ichak police station, said. Doctors at the hospital said two suffered serious head and chest injuries and remain in critical condition, while treatment of the others is underway.

Eyewitnesses said the bridge lacks guard wall due to which the e-rickshaw veered off the bridge and fell into the river.
