From muscle loss to metabolic gains: A non-invasive tech redefining fitness and skin health
Pune: As GLP-1 weight-loss injections gain global traction, Pune has become the first city in India to introduce a novel, non-invasive technology designed for deep muscle building and skin toning. The "Wonder Axon" system, which combines high-intensity neuromuscular stimulation (HI-SNS) with radiofrequency (RF), was launched recently at the SkinEthics Centre for Advanced Skin, Hair & Laser Treatments in Baner. The system offers a dual-action approach that simultaneously builds muscle and tightens skin. Unlike conventional aesthetic technologies that work superficially, Wonder Axon penetrates up to 20 cm below the skin, delivering deep muscle stimulation that mimics the physiological effects of an intense workout.Dermatologist Dr Pallavi Ahire-Shelke noted that the technology serves both aesthetic and medical purposes. "This is not just a cosmetic procedure; it is particularly useful for individuals who are unable to engage in regular physical activity due to medical conditions," she said.Dr Ahire-Shelke added that the system is also designed to support patients experiencing muscle loss—a common concern for those undergoing GLP-1-based weight-loss therapies.
Furthermore, it can aid in treating conditions such as urinary incontinence and diastasis recti (the separation of abdominal muscles). Each 25-minute session is designed to contribute to measurable improvements in muscle mass, fat reduction, and posture. However, experts emphasized that the treatment is not a replacement for traditional health practices. Instead, it is intended as part of a holistic approach that integrates a balanced diet, lifestyle changes, and medical oversight for long-term results."With changing lifestyles and limited time for structured exercise, there is a growing demand for treatments that are both time-efficient and scientifically backed," Dr Ahire-Shelke said. "Fitness is not just about losing weight—maintaining muscle mass is essential. This technology, which has already been proven effective in more than 70 countries, uses electromagnetic fields for deep pelvic muscles and HI-SNS with radiofrequency to strengthen the body while tightening the skin."
