Newlywed woman found dead in Muzaffarpur
Patna: The body of a 28-year-old newly married woman was found inside her room in the Brahmapura police station area of Muzaffarpur on Saturday, triggering allegations of dowry harassment and murder by her family. Police arrested the husband in connection with the case.
The deceased was identified as Khushboo Kumari, who had been married six months ago. Her husband has been taken into custody.
The victim’s brother alleged that his sister was subjected to persistent dowry harassment and physical abuse by her husband and in-laws. He claimed they had demanded a luxury car and a flat in Patna. According to the family, Rs 51 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 70 lakh were given at the time of marriage.
A forensic team visited the spot to collect evidence. Police said the post-mortem report is awaited to ascertain the exact cause of death.
The brother further alleged that Khushboo was tortured continuously after marriage and was murdered as part of a planned conspiracy.
SHO of Brahmapura police station said, “The body was found lying on the bed and has been sent for postmortem. The husband has been detained. Police are investigating the case from all angles. An FIR has been registered on the basis of a written complaint from the family, and further legal action is being taken. The guilty will not be spared.”
The deceased’s father alleged that his daughter was killed by her husband and in-laws together. “On Saturday night around 9 pm, my daughter’s father-in-law called and said she had died due to burning,” he said.
“Within two to three hours, we reached Muzaffarpur and found that my daughter was already dead. There were no burn marks on her body. Gloves were found under the pillow. We suspect she was strangled to death,” he alleged.
